100,000 Containers Saved from Landfill at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre
If you’ve grabbed a drink while shopping at Pacific Fair this year, there’s a good chance that empty container didn’t go to waste — thanks to a local recycling initiative doing big things behind the scenes.
In February 2025, the iconic Gold Coast shopping centre partnered with local charity, 10 Cent Tom, to collect and sort eligible 10 cent containers consumed at the shopping centre.
More than just recycling
In just three months, they saved more than 100,000 bottles and cans from landfill — giving each one a second life through Containers for Change.
They’ve also earned more than $10,000 in refunds, which go directly to 10 Cent Tom to help create employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Why shopping centre recycling matters
Most unreturned drink containers in Queensland are tossed away in public places - especially busy spots like shopping centres where returning isn’t always easy or convenient.
That’s where partnerships like Pacific Fair and 10 Cent Tom make a real difference.
“Partnering with 10 Cent Tom allows us to make a tangible difference in our sustainability efforts while also creating opportunities for important members of our community,” says Pacific Fair General Manager Shaine Beveridge.
With Pacific Fair providing the space and support, and 10 Cent Tom doing the collecting, this team effort is helping containers find new life and helping keep Queensland clean, one bottle at a time.
